Live Music -
A personal favorite medium
When I first jumped back into photography, I primarily focused on capturing concerts. This genre of photography is unlike any other, with its fast-paced environment and constant movement. Though it is not the type of photography I get to do as often now, it still remains one of my absolute favorite things to capture. The energy of a live performance is unmatched, and the raw emotions of both the band and the crowd make every shot unique.
Throughout the years, I've had the privilege of working with local bands from both Atlanta and Athens, two cities that have rich musical scenes. But I’ve also been fortunate enough to work with larger, nationally touring bands like Fit For An Autopsy, The Story So Far, Miguel, Kevin Morby, and many more. Each of these experiences has taught me something new about capturing a moment, and the difference in atmosphere and energy between local and national acts is always fascinating.
What I love most about concert photography is the ability to freeze raw moments in time. Whether it’s the intense concentration of a guitarist lost in their solo, or the ecstatic connection between a band and the crowd, every shot tells a story. The thrill of trying to capture that perfect frame amidst the chaotic and fleeting nature of a live performance is something I’ve always found incredibly rewarding.
Despite the challenges—dim lighting, constant movement, and the pressure to get the shot—I wouldn’t trade it for anything. It’s an adrenaline rush that always keeps me coming back for more. If I’m ever given the chance to capture a show, whether big or small, it’s always an immediate yes!
